Motorcyclist, 20, Killed in Crash on Date Palm Drive
Zachariah Acosta, 20, of Cathedral City, died Sunday night in a collision on Date Palm Drive in Cathedral City.
The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner’s office identified the young man on its website.
The deadly crash occurred at 9:13 p.m. on Sunday, June 18th at Date Palm Drive and 35th Avenue, the report said.
The motorcycle rider was traveling northbound on Date Palm Drive when another motorist turned from Royal Palms Country Club into his path, according to NBC News Palm Springs. The rider was reportedly driving at a high rate of speed and could not avoid hitting the other vehicle, according to the Cathedral City Police Department.
Zachariah Acosta suffered major injuries and was unresponsive. The Cathedral City Fire Department sent paramedics who tried to save him, but he died at the scene at 9:27 p.m., coroner’s officials said.
Authorities closed down Date Palm Drive between 35th Avenue and Victoria Drive to investigate.
The Cathedral City Police Department’s Traffic Division is heading up the investigation.
