Woman, 78, Killed in Long Beach Crash; Driver Arrested

Yolanda Hernandez, 78, of Long Beach, died in a Long Beach pedestrian accident on Atlantic Avenue.

The driver who hit her drove away, but later returned to the scene and was arrested on hit-and-run charges, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The pedestrian accident occurred at around 5:25 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9th in the 2700 block of Atlantic Avenue, police said.

The Long Beach Fire Department responded with paramedics who tried to save the elderly woman’s life, but she died at the scene, police said.

Later, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the victim as Yolanda Hernandez, 78, of Long Beach.

Meanwhile, a preliminary investigation by police determined the driver was traveling southbound on Atlantic Avenue when they struck the woman.

The man fled and then returned to the crash scene and cooperated with police.

The suspect was identified as 32-year-old Ronald Quispe of Long Beach. He was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, police said.
