Woman Killed in Crash with Wrong-Way Driver is Identified
Yannira Rodriguez, 32, of San Diego, died in a crash with an alleged wrong-way driver Sunday on the Interstate 15 Freeway between Aero Drive and Friars Road.
The San Diego Medical Examiner identified the woman on its website.
The collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. on August 27th, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
The San Diego woman was traveling southbound on the 15 Freeway near Aero Drive.
A witnesses called 911 to report a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of the freeway just moments before the collision with Yannira Rodriguez’s Honda Fit.
The other drivers involved were a Nissan Altima and an Infiniti SUV.
Firefighters responded and located the driver from the Honda trapped in their vehicle. They used the “Jaws of Life” to cut open the vehicle and eventually freed the woman after roughly 25 minutes. Sadly, the motorist identified as Yannira Rodriguez died after the collision.
A second person from a separate vehicle suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital in unknown condition.
An investigation into the fatal crash on the 15 Freeway is underway.
