Wrong-way Driver Leaves 3 People Dead

A Wednesday morning collision claimed the life of three people in Goleta, CA. The crash took place at about 2:19 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25th.

The two vehicles involved were a silver Volkswagen Jetta and a white Ford Expedition. Both became engulfed in flames following the collision.

According to a witness, the Jetta, driven by Natalia Stallworth, 28,  passed over into opposing traffic and collided with the Expedition.

The Expedition was occupied by Eryka Lopez, 23, and Daniel Garcia, 25.

Authorities shut down the highway for several hours.

Although crashes involving wrong-way driving account for only 3% of motor vehicle accidents, they usually have a higher fatality rate as they are often head-on collisions. A study in Virginia concluded that those accidents which include wrong-way driving are twenty-seven times more likely to end in a fatality compared to other types of accidents

In the U.S. one’s odds of dying in a car accident is around 1 in 107.

If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may be entitled to wrongful death benefits.

It is also important to remember that in the state of California a person involved in a car accident who has sustained injuries has to file a claim within two years of the accident.
