Deadly Wrong-Way Collision in Santa Rosa

CHP reported a fatal wrong-way accident in Santa Rosa on Sunday morning, killing one person and injuring another. 

The collision occurred on April 3rd within the northbound lanes of Highway 101.

Justino Gomez Rojas, 36, was traveling the wrong way in a pickup truck before colliding with an SUV.

The accident took place near the Hearn Avenue exit and left the other motorist with major injuries.

Unfortunately, Rojas was pronounced dead at the scene.

An active investigation is underway.

Although crashes involving wrong-way driving account for only 3% of motor vehicle accidents, they usually have a higher fatality rate as they are often head-on collisions. 

A study in Virginia concluded that those accidents which include wrong-way driving are twenty-seven times more likely to end in a fatality compared to other types of accidents.
