Two Police Officers Hurt in Wilshire Accident on Wilshire and Hauser Boulevards

A woman riding an electric bicycle crashed into an abandoned shopping car in a bicycle lane at Friars Road and Morena Boulevard in San Diego.

The collision occurred about 5:20 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 13th, just north of the Interstate 8 Freeway in the Morena area, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

The 56-year-old bicyclist suffered a major head injury as she was also not wearing a helmet, police said.

She was riding westbound in the bicycle lane on Friars Road and apparently did not notice the shopping cart on its side in the bike lane. It was likely dark or almost dark at the time of the collision. Upon impact, she was ejected off the bicycle and landed on her head, authorities said.

Witnesses told police she was spitting up blood and convulsing and eventually became non-responsive, but breathing by the time she was taken to the hospital. Police say she suffered a brain bleed and is on life support at the hospital.

Investigators are working on the case and will determine fault for the crash. It’s unknown at this time where the shopping cart belonged and if the store would be responsible or perhaps the city for failing to remove the debris from traffic lanes.

If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may be entitled to wrongful death benefits.
