A 22-year-old woman was pronounced dead after her motorcycle collided with a van on Sunday night around 6:15 p.m., according to police. The woman was riding a 2020 Kawasaki Ninja headed northbound near the 6000 block of Cherry Avenue in Long Beach when she collided with a 1989 Ford Econoline. The 72-year-old driver of the van was said to be pulling out from the curb.
When authorities arrived at the scene they performed life-saving measures on her, but she was ultimately transported to a nearby hospital where she died. The van’s driver remained at the scene and did not suffer any serious injuries.
The woman’s identity is being withheld until next-of-kin are notified of the incident. Police say the female motorcyclist was not licensed to operate a motorcycle. Her speed is being investigated as a factor in the collision. Drugs and alcohol have not yet been ruled out as factors.
