William Stuart and 72-Year-Old Man Killed in Hwy 247 Crash on Thanksgiving Morning
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of one of the drivers who died following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 247 in Landers.
The sheriff’s office identified the victim as William Stuart, 58, of Phoenix, Arizona. The second driver was only identified as a 72-year-old Wofford Heights man. A 67-year-old passenger was seriously injured.
The deadly crash happened at about 1:06 a.m. on Old Woman Springs Road south of Olivine Road.
According to the CHP, Stuart was driving an Audi northbound on Highway 247, south of Olivine Road, when for some reason, he crossed over the solid yellow line into the southbound lane and collided head-on with an oncoming Lincoln operated by the 72-year-old man from Wofford Heights.
The Lincoln caught fire following the crash. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Lincoln, identified as Pamela Alvarez, 67, of Wofford Heights, was airlifted to Desert Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The deadly accidents happened just a few days after another fatal accident near the same location on Monday, November 20 where two High Desert residents were killed after a Jeep Cherokee crossed the solid double yellow lines on Old Woman Springs Road and collided head-on with an oncoming Kia Optima near Olivine Road.
