Woman, Man Killed in Contra Costa County
Virginia Lopez, 29, of El Sobrante, and Recadeo Valdez, 27, of Pittsburg, were both killed in a crash Friday on Highway 4 in Pittsburg, California.
The two-vehicle collision occurred on State Route 4 around 8:15 p.m. on June 30th, in Contra Costa County, according to the East Bay Times.
The man and woman were riding together in a GMC pickup truck that collided due to unknown circumstances with a brown Volkswagen sedan or bus, according to a California Highway Patrol report. Both of them were ejected from the pickup truck as it overturned during the collision.
Highway 4 Has History of Deadly Crashes
Paramedics responded and rushed the man and woman to a hospital. Sadly, both of them later died from their injuries at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver from the Volkswagen was not injured and had no passengers.
There is an investigating into liability for the deadly crash.
Six people including Virginia Lopez and Recadeo Valdez have died on Highway 4 since May 9th and 10 so far in 2023, according to records from East Bay Times. The highway is known to be a dangerous one with 39 collisions in the past 2.5 years resulting in 44 deaths, the report said.
