Man, 43, ID’d as Victim of Car Accident in Castle Ranch Area

Victor Smith, 43, of Atascadero, died in a crash in early January on Highway 99, just south of Taft Highway or SR-119 in the Castle Ranch area of Bakersfield.

The two-vehicle collision occurred on the northbound Golden State Highway (SR-99) at around 3:31 a.m. on Jan. 3rd, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials reported the drivers of a white and red CNA Transportation semi-truck and a gray 2008 Toyota Prius were involved in the wreck. The big rig truck reportedly rear-ended the car and killed its driver, the Atascadero man, according to a report by Bakersfield Now.

Paramedics responded, but unfortunately the Toyota driver identified as Victor Smith died at the scene of the collision. The Kern County Sheriff Coroner recently released the man’s name.

Investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the Bakersfield crash on Highway 99.
