Fallbrook Man, 86, Identified as Crash Victim
Thomas Carl Asper, 86, of Fallbrook, died in a two-vehicle crash last Wednesday on Old Highway 395 at the Interstate 15 Freeway exit.
The collision occurred at around 7:40 a.m. on Jan. 31st, according to the California Highway Patrol-Oceanside station.
Police responded to the accident at the southbound Interstate 15 Freeway off-ramp and Old Highway 395, according to a report by North County Daily Star.
The victim was driving a maroon Toyota Venza along Old Highway 395. Meanwhile, an 18-year-old Wildomar woman was driving a black Jaguar XF from the southbound Interstate 15 off ramp. She reportedly stopped at the intersection before entering it and collided with the Toyota.
Upon impact, the Toyota Venza SUV overturned and its elderly driver suffered major injuries. Paramedics rushed him by ambulance to Palomar Medical Center, but he later died at 8:59 a.m. the same day.
The driver of the Jaguar was not injured in the crash.
Investigators are working to determine fault for the crash. So far, authorities do not suspect alcohol and/or drugs were factors.
The man who died was later identified as Thomas Carl Asper by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
