22-Year-Old Man Dies in DUI Accident

A hit-and-run collision killed 22-year-old Terry Nilsen Jr. in Chico Sunday morning on March 6th.

Nilsen Jr. was reportedly riding a moped within the southbound lanes of the Esplanade when a pickup truck struck him.

According to police, the truck dragged the moped for nearly 2 miles before it detached from the truck.

The victim was rushed to a local hospital where he sadly ended up dying.

The accident also occurred around 12:30 a.m. and the reported driver fled the scene following the wreck.

Chase Jacobsen, 24, was later arrested for DUI and hit-and-run causing major injury. He was also charged with vehicular manslaughter.

An active investigation remains underway.

According to NHTSA, more than a quarter (25%) of accident-related deaths are linked to the use of alcohol. With that being said, according to the CDC, there are 30 people that are killed everyday in a car accident as a result of an alcohol-impaired driver. That is equivalent to one death every 50 minutes.

If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may also be entitled to wrongful death benefits.
