Man, 80, Riding Bike Identified as Victim of Car Accident

Steven Kingsley Close, 80, of Carpinteria, died in a car versus bicycle accident Tuesday morning on Rincon Road or State Route 150, just south of Via Real in Carpinteria.

The deadly crash occurred at around 8:44 a.m. on Jan. 9th, near the entrance to Highway 101, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials reported a driver in a vehicle struck the bicyclist in the 6600 block of Rincon Road, the report said.

The bicycle rider, later identified by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff Coroner, sustained major injuries and died on scene, the Santa Barbara Independent reports. Police diverted traffic away from the crash scene and closed the Highway 101/State Route 150 ramp.

Investigators are working to determine liability for the death of Steven Kingsley Close.
