33-Year-Old Woman Dies in Ventura Freeway Crash

California Highway Patrol reported a fatal wrong-way collision in Ventura on Sunday morning.

The accident sadly resulted in the death of 33-year-old Shae Lopez of Oxnard just before 2 a.m.

Per reports, Lopez was traveling southbound in an Acura RSX on the 101 Freeway near Victoria Avenue.

A Honda Civic was headed north within the southbound lanes at the same time and collided with the Acura.

Both Shae Lopez, and the Honda Driver, Javier Lopez, died at the scene of the crash.

A 33-year-old male passenger of the Acura also had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.

In addition, CHP forced a shutdown of the southbound lanes from Telephone Road to Victoria Avenue for a period of time.

The crash remains under investigation.

JT Legal Group sends our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Shae Lopez and Javier Lopez.

Although crashes involving wrong-way driving account for only 3% of motor vehicle accidents, they usually have a higher fatality rate as they are often head-on collisions.

A study in Virginia concluded that those accidents which include wrong-way driving are twenty-seven times more likely to end in a fatality compared to other types of accidents.
