Man, 60, Killed in 2-Vehicle Crash in Long Beach

Rodger Lee Watkins, 60, of Long Beach, died in a two-vehicle crash at Atlantic Avenue and Anaheim Street in Long Beach.

The two-vehicle collision occurred at around 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 20th, according to MyNewsLA.

The Long Beach Police Department responded to the scene of the crash between a 2012 Ford Focus and a 2012 Lexus IS 250.

Authorities report the northbound Lexus broadsided the eastbound Ford driven by Rodger Lee Watkins at the Long Beach intersection. The Ford careened out of control and crashed into a traffic light and a building, while the Lexus crashed into a bus bench.

The driver of the Ford became trapped inside his vehicle and died at the scene. Meanwhile, the 31-year-old driving the Lexus who is also from Long Beach, survived with non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.

Also, authorities are investigating the crash to determine if speed, distracted driving and or DUI were factors in the collision.

Finally, witnesses are asked to call Long Beach Police Dept. Detective Shawn Loughlin at 562-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
