Freeway Pileup Kills One Person

A multi-vehicle collision resulted in a death on Friday morning, September 3rd in Orange.

According to CHP, the collision reportedly took place at about 5:40 a.m. on the 55 Freeway near Katella Avenue.

Four or five unidentified vehicles collided on the northbound side due to unknown circumstances, resulting in a pileup.

One person was killed, however, authorities have not disclosed their name pending notification of kin.

All lanes heading north were shut down for a period of time. One of the vehicles also wound up sideways.

Police issued a SigAlert at 5:55 a.m.

It is also unknown whether or not other people were injured.

Investigators are working to determine liability.

Multi-vehicle collisions are typically more common in busy intersections or highways. Speeding, weather, distractions, and drowsy or intoxicated driving are main reasons negligent drivers cause these types of wrecks.

When it comes to filing a claim with this type of collision, it gets difficult. This is because multiple vehicles are involved so determining liability can take much longer. Multi-vehicle collision claims are more complex due to numerous victims, multiple negligent drivers, cross-claims and insufficient insurance.
