Pedro Moreno Torres Killed After Hit-and-Run in Bakersfield

A hit-and-run crash killed Pedro Moreno Torres at Edison Highway and Mt Vernon Avenue in Bakersfield.

The Kern County Coroner’ Office identified the 37-year-old man killed as the victim of the fatal collision which occurred on Sunday.

The incident happened when Pedro Moreno Torres was crossing onto westbound Edison Highway in Bakersfield. He was walking east of the Mount Vernon Avenue overcrossing at the time.

The California Highway Patrol said for an unknown reason, a vehicle struck him. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the pedestrian left lying on the ground as a result of the accident. Medical personnel soon pronounced Pedro Torres dead at the scene. The Bakersfield Californian and Kern Golden Empire wrote that the collision took place on July 11 at around 12:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid and fled the area. Officers described the car as an older, silver compact sedan with a damaged headlight.
