Deadly Pedestrian Accident Along Otay Mesa Boulevard
An unidentified man in his 50s was hit by a vehicle and killed in Otay Mesa Sunday evening.
San Diego Union Tribune reported that the incident occurred just after 6:30 p.m. on February 27th.
An eastbound driver reportedly struck the victim along Otay Mesa Road and fled the scene.
Sadly, the man died at the scene of the crash.
Further details will be provided once an investigation is concluded.
According to statistics, 20% of pedestrian fatalities include fleeing drivers. In addition, 68% of those killed in hit-and-run crashes are pedestrians and bicyclists.
There was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.
