Man Struck in South Gate at Firestone Boulevard
A male pedestrian was hit by a semi-truck on the 710 Freeway in Southgate on Thursday morning.
The incident took place on November 18th around 9:09 a.m., per CHP.
A man in his 30s was reportedly running across traffic lanes from the shoulder to the center divider prior to being hit.
He was then hit by a semi in the No. 4 lane of the southbound side of the freeway.
It is unclear at this time why the man was running across the lanes.
There aren’t any details regarding the injuries or condition of the man at this time.
Authorities also shut down the No. 3 & 4 lanes of the freeway for a period of time following the incident.
The crash remains under investigation.
According to statistics, there was a 26% increase in pedestrian deaths in California from 2014-2018.
In addition, California’s pedestrian fatality rate is about 25% higher than the national average.
