Oswaldo Cardenas Killed in Forestville Pedestrian Accident on River Road; Alyssa Whitten Arrested

According to the CHP, a Santa Rosa woman was arrested Friday afternoon in connection to a hit-and-run accident that left a pedestrian dead last weekend in Forestville.

Alyssa Whitten, 35, was arrested at her residence.

The deadly accident happened around 7:30 a.m., August 27, on River Road.

CHP said Oswaldo Mario-Rogelio Cardenas Jr., 18, of Cloverdale, was walking with two other people alongside the roadway when he was struck by a Buick Enclave.

The Enclave driver, Whitten, stopped briefly before driving off.

Cardenas was killed in the crash.

Whitten’s Enclave was found early Wednesday morning fully engulfed in flames on Llano Road west of Santa Rosa. She was identified as the registered owner of the Enclave that matched witness description and had matching crash damage from the hit and run.

Whitten was arrested on Friday and taken into custody on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

The authorities are conducting the investigation.
