One Killed in 5 Freeway Traffic Collision

Deadly Merced Crash Involving Semi-Truck

A semi-truck collided with another vehicle on Thursday morning in Merced, resulting in the death of one person.

It was around 6:30 a.m. when the collision occurred within the northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway.

At this time it is unclear what caused the two vehicles to collide.

Upon impact, part of the car was stuck to the semi while another was in the number 2 lane.

One person sadly died at the scene of the crash.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

It is most often those in passenger cars that are killed in large truck collisions. Semi trucks typically weigh 20-30 times as much as passenger cars which leaves occupants of smaller cars more vulnerable.

According to the D.O.T., in 2019 67% of fatal collisions involving large trucks were occupants of a passenger car.
