Deadly Adelanto Head-On Collision
Police are actively investigating a fatal head-on collision that occurred early Friday morning in Adelanto.
The accident happened at 6:39 a.m. on February 4th at El Mirage Road and Sonora Road.
CHP reported that a pickup truck and Nissan collided due to one vehicle veering into the opposite lane.
Both lanes of El Mirage were blocked as a result of the collision and one person sustained life-threatening injuries.
One person was transported via air ambulance and sadly died due their injuries.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of kin.
An active investigation is underway.
Head-on collisions are without a doubt the most dangerous types of crashes. They may only account for 2% of accidents, however they make up 10% of all deadly crashes.
The Fatal Analysis Reporting System (FARS) has found that:
- 75% of head-on crashes happen in rural areas
- They are most common on two-lane highways
- Failure in negotiating a curve on the road causes 23% of all fatal head-on collisions
- 58% of head-on collisions result in a fatality
