One Dead after Merced Multi-Vehicle Collision

Fatal Collision on SR-59 Kills One

Three vehicles collided on Friday morning in Merced leading to the death of an unidentified person.

The deadly collision occurred on November 19th just minutes before 5 a.m. on State Route Highway 59.

According to CHP, a Ford Ranger pickup, a Volkswagen and a 3rd vehicle were among those involved.

In addition, one of the vehicles also struck a wooden communication post.

A witness also told authorities that an occupant of the Volkswagen fled the scene with rear-end damage.

Due to the impact, two people were injured and taken to Mercy Medical Center and Doctor’s Medical Center for treatment.

Sadly, one of the persons sustained major injuries and later died as a result.

No names have been disclosed at this time.

Tow trucks were also needed to remove the damaged vehicles from the scene.

Investigators are actively working to determine liability.

Multi-vehicle collisions are typically more common in busy intersections or highways. Speeding, weather, distractions, and drowsy or intoxicated driving are main reasons negligent drivers cause these types of wrecks.

When it comes to filing a claim with this type of collision, it gets difficult. This is because multiple vehicles are involved so determining liability can take much longer. Multi-vehicle collision claims are more complex due to numerous victims, multiple negligent drivers, cross-claims and insufficient insurance.
