North County Crash Kills 19-Year-Old Man

A big-rig accident claimed the life of one person on Wednesday morning near San Onofre State Beach. 

The fatal crash took place around 5:00 a.m. on September 22nd on the 5 Freeway, per reports. 

The unidentified man was traveling south in his Hyundai when he crashed into the back of a big-rig. According to the California Highway Patrol, it is unclear what led to the collision. 

Following the crash, the 19-year-old was transported in an air ambulance to a local hospital. 

Despite life-saving efforts, the man later died at the hospital. 

The crash remains under investigation.

According to the D.O.T., in 2019 67% of fatal collisions involving large trucks were occupants of a passenger car.

In addition, rear-end collisions account for 950,000 injuries and 2,000 deaths each year.
