Traffic Collision near California State Line in Las Vegas
Multiple vehicles collided on Monday afternoon, January 3rd on the I-15 Freeway in Nevada.
The accident occurred near the California State Line and left 8 people with injuries.
Per reports, three vehicles collided at 1:25 p.m. as the result of a tractor-trailer not yielding to stopped traffic.
This caused the tractor-trailer to collide with a Dodge Ram that was occupied by four adults and one child.
Upon impact, the Dodge Ram then crashed into a Bentley that had one adult and three children inside.
The driver of the Dodge Ram was airlifted to University Medical Center and four other occupants were transported via ambulance.
Additionally, the driver of the Bentley along with two children were transported to UMC as well.
There was also a delay in traffic within the southbound lanes for a period of time following the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
It is most often those in passenger cars that are killed in large truck collisions. Semi trucks typically weigh 20-30 times as much as passenger cars which leaves occupants of smaller cars more vulnerable.
It is also much more difficult for larger trucks to stop so their braking capability can also be a factor in these collisions.
According to the D.O.T., in 2019 67% of fatal collisions involving large trucks were occupants of a passenger car.
