Motorcyclist Francisco Cruz Killed in Crash on Highway 99

The man who was struck by a vehicle in Bakersfield Tuesday night has been identified as 33-year-old Javier Hernandez Cruz.

Cruz died near Rosedale Highway Tuesday night at around 6:30 p.m. April 27, according to California Highway Patrol. He was riding a motorcycle going southbound on Highway 99 when he lost control, due to lane splitting, and crashed into the rear end of a semi-truck.

CHP reports that the impact ejected Cruz from his motorcycle and onto the highway. The Kern County Sheriff’s Office pronounced him dead at the scene. Police do not suspect drugs and alcohol to be factors in the crash.

The cause of the accident is still being investigated by the CHP. No other injuries were reported.
