San Francisco Officer Injured in Traffic Accident
Moderate injuries were sustained in a motorcycle collision involving a police officer on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident took place around 2:25 p.m. in Redwood City on May 17th.
A female police officer was riding a motorcycle in the area of 5th Avenue and Bay Road when she was broadsided by a blue sedan.
The car was traveling south on Bay Road when it failed to stop for a red light.
Upon impact, the woman was launched into the air. Paramedics rushed her to a local hospital for treatment.
Additionally, the involved driver lost control and then collided with a parked vehicle at a gas station.
The driver also suffered minor injuries as a result.
An active investigation is underway.
Statistics from 2019 show that 846 people were killed in crashes that involved running a red light and about 143,000 people were injured.
Statistics also show that approximately 80% of accidents involving a motorcycle result in injuries or death.
