DUI Crash Results in Death of Female Bicyclist

An alcohol-impaired driver hit and killed a female bicyclist in Modesto Sunday evening.

Reports included that the accident occurred at the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Yellowstone Avenue around 5:45 p.m.

38-year-old Michelle Johnson was riding north on her bike when an Acura ILX struck her on March 13th.

Johnson was rushed to a local hospital where she sadly died as a result of her injuries.

It was soon discovered that the female driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. She was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Police shut down the intersection for a period of time following the incident.

According to NHTSA, more than a quarter (25%) of accident-related deaths are linked to the use of alcohol. With that being said, according to the CDC, there are 30 people that are killed everyday in a car accident as a result of an alcohol-impaired driver. That is equivalent to one death every 50 minutes.

If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may also be entitled to wrongful death benefits.
