Driver, 53, Killed in Crash with Alleged DUI Driver in Indio
Martin Gutierrez, 53, of Indio, died in a head-on crash Tuesday night on Indio Springs Parkway, just east of Golf Center Drive in Indio.
The deadly crash occurred at around 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 19th, according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner.
Authorities report a suspected drunken driver in a white GMC pickup truck was traveling westbound on Indio Springs Parkway. The driver reportedly crossed over into oncoming eastbound traffic and collided with the victim’s white Saturn sedan, the report said.
Firefighters and paramedics responded and located a man and woman trapped in the Saturn. The firefighters extricated the driver and his passenger and then they were transported to JFK Hospital. Unfortunately, the man identified as Martin Gutierrez later died at the hospital.
Meanwhile, 37-year-old Alejandro Ortega who was driving the GMC truck was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and or drugs. Police did not make a formal arrest at this time.
Investigators are working on the case to determine fault.
