Mariel Castaneda Left Injured After Crash

A deadly car accident left Mariel E. Castaneda, 26, seriously injured near Crows Landing Road in Stanislaus County.

According to the California Highway Patrol group, the 26-year-old Atwater woman was the victim of the Saturday night crash.

The crash began when Castaneda was driving a 2014 Land Rover Range Rover southbound on Crows Landing Road in Stanislaus County. Meanwhile, a 2006 Honda Civic was traveling northbound.

The driver of the Honda, Homero C. Sanchez, 64, veered into the southbound lane. The Patterson man crashed head-on into the Range Rover, south of Monte Vista Avenue.

Mariel Castaneda suffered major injuries as a result. She was rushed to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for further treatment.

Sanchez was also taken to the Doctors Medical Center where he shortly after died. Authorities believe that Sanchez was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when he collided into Castaneda.

The crash is still under investigation.
