Highway 99 Accident Leaves 2 Dead

20-year-old Mariano Cruz was one of two people that were killed in a DUI crash on Saturday, September 3rd.

It was around 6 in the morning when a Hyundai made an unsafe lane change, causing a collision with Cruz’s Mitsubishi.

The wreck took place within the northbound lanes of Highway 99 in Fresno.

Upon impact, the Mitsubishi lost control, went down an embankment and struck a tree.

Sadly, both Cruz and a passenger, Emily Ochoa Ascencio, 18,  died at the scene. They were both Mendota residents.

It was discovered that the Hyundai driver, Eugene Roebuk, 21, was impaired at the time of the accident. He was arrested after being taken to Fresno Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
