One Killed Following Accident on I-5 Freeway

Two vehicles collided in La Costa, California, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old man. 

Several people were also injured due to the impact of the accident. 

Reports included that the collision occurred on March 23rd just before 3 a.m. on the Interstate 5 Freeway. 

Isidrone Martinez, 20, was traveling north in a Honda Civic as he approached a Caltrans construction zone. 

Martinez veered to the right, then the left, causing a collision with a Toyota Prius, driven by a San Diego man. 

The Honda drifted up an embankment and flipped over multiple times, causing a passenger to be ejected. 

Unfortunately, the 20-year-old male passenger, of Oceanside, was pronounced dead at the scene. 

Martinez also suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. 

In addition, the Prius driver along with his passenger suffered only minor injuries. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment. 

Several occupants of the Honda also sustained major injuries. 

The crash remains under investigation. 

In 2020, studies showed that the state of California reported 3,723 motor-vehicle deaths which was an increase from 2019. 

In the U.S. one’s odds of dying in a car accident is around 1 in 107.
