Jose Carreravasquez Charged

The man involved in the pursuit after causing a car accident on April 24, has been identified as 47-year-old Jose Gelacio Carreravasquez. He was charged for the chase that began around 8:20 p.m. on the border of Villa Park and Orange.

Carreravasquez, who was driving under the influence, was heading south on Tustin Avenue in a pickup truck when he ran a red light and hit a van heading east on Santa Clara Avenue. Officers attempted to pull him over, which only led to a pursuit that hit speeds of more than 100 mph.

The passengers in the van were injured, with one being hospitalized in critical condition. Carreravasquez was charged with two counts of eluding police, DUI resulting in injury, hit-and-run resulting in injury, and arson.
