Man, 62, Killed in Hit-and-run Crash on Highway 1

James Pack, 62, of Carmel, died in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 1 on Thursday morning in Monterey County.

Police are now searching for the suspect in a silver vehicle that hit the victim’s 1988 Volkswagen van near Aguajito Road around 3:40 p.m. on June 1st, according to KSBW Action News 8 and the California Highway Patrol.

The car’s impact caused the vintage Volkswagen van to overturn multiple times. The driver identified as James Pack suffered major injuries in the crash. Paramedics responded and rushed him to the hospital where he died soon afterwards.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim.

The CHP says the suspect’s vehicle will likely have major front-end damage on the right side. Also, they suspect there could be a road rage incident that led to the collision.

Witnesses or anyone who was driving in the area and may have dash camera footage of the silver vehicle may contact the CHP at 831-796-2160.
