Motorist Killed in 2-Vehicle Car Accident is Identified

James Mattos, 69, of Fresno, died in a two-vehicle car accident at West Dinuba Avenue and South West Avenue on Tuesday morning in Caruthers.

The traffic accident occurred around 11:04 a.m. on Sept. 26th, according to the California Highway Patrol. The drivers of a white Nissan Altima and a GMC Sierra pickup truck, the CHP said.

CHP officials reported both vehicles wound up in an almond orchard and the silver pickup truck overturned onto its roof. Also, one of the vehicles was smoking after the accident. Authorities say one person was found out of their vehicle and laying under a tree, the report said.

Cal Fire sent paramedics and firefighters to the scene to help those injured, but sadly the driver of the pickup truck identified as James Mattos died after the accident. Two others from the Nissan were taken to a hospital with moderate injuries and major injuries.

Tow trucks removed the damaged vehicles and debris from the roadway.

Finally, investigators are working on the case to determine fault for the fatal accident on Dinuba Avenue in Fresno County.
