Multi-Vehicle Car Accident on I-5 Freeway
Itania Unutoataleni, 45, of Twentynine Palms, has been identified as the woman who died July 5th in a multi-vehicle Lost Hills crash on the Interstate 5 Freeway, just north of Twisselman Road.
The collision occurred around 7:24 a.m. on July 5th in Kern County, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
A driver in a 2008 International truck was heading northbound on the I-5 Freeway. The truck driver was going about 60 mph when the vehicle crashed into the back of a 2007 Nissan Pathfinder being towed behind a 2023 Dodge Caravan. The faster-moving truck hit the Pathfinder and then the Caravan as they were traveling around 30 mph.
Upon impact, the Pathfinder veered off the roadway and overturned. Itania Unutoataleni was a passenger riding in the Pathfinder. She was ejected and found unconscious following the wreck. Sadly, the woman suffered major injuries and died at the scene. Also, a one-year-old child who was also in the Nissan Pathfinder suffered major injuries. The toddler was not secured in a car seat, police said. The child was transported to Kern Medical Center for further medical treatment..
