Man, 59, Killed; Suspected DUI Driver Arrested
Gregory Cruz, 59, died and Jose Saavedra-Escoto, 48, was arrested following a wrong-way crash Saturday night on West Santa Ana Avenue in San Bernardino.
The deadly crash occurred around 8:43 p.m. on June 24th in the 300 block of W. Santa Ana Avenue, according to KTLA 5 News.
The 59-year-old Riverside man was driving a white Chevrolet Luminna eastbound on Santa Ana Avenue.
Meanwhile, the 48-year-old Bloomington man was heading westbound in a white Ford F-150 pickup truck. For unknown reasons, Jose Saavedra-Escoto veered into the path of Gregory Cruz and the two vehicles collided head on.
Gregory Cruz Dies in Wrong-Way Crash
The Rialto Fire Department responded to help those involved. The man driving the Chevrolet was rushed to a hospital with major injuries, but he died shortly after his arrival.
Meanwhile, the wrong-way driver in the pickup truck was also taken to the hospital for minor injuries, but investigators believe he was driving under the influence.
The police department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is working on the case and will determine fault as well as all charges against the suspect.
