Geoffrey Balzer Killed in Coalinga Crash on Interstate 5

Geoffrey Balzer, a 76-year-old man, died following a traffic accident that occurred on the Interstate 5 Freeway June 5, Monday evening.

Your Central Valley News reported Balzer was traveling on the freeway at about 11 p.m. Officials believed the vehicle suddenly broke down as it approached the area near Jayne Avenue. The car came to a stop on the right shoulder of the freeway.

Deadly Pedestrian Accident in Coalinga

Preliminary investigation revealed Balzer stepped out of the disabled car and started tending to it. According to the article published online, Balzer was within the traffic lanes while trying to fix his vehicle. The catastrophic incident happened when the driver of an oncoming Peterbilt truck did not notice Balzer and hit him at the edge of the roadway. The collision resulted in life-threatening injuries to the pedestrian. Despite life-saving measures performed by paramedics, the victim sadly succumbed to his injuries and passed away. On Wednesday, the Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Geoffrey Balzer, of Coos County Oregon.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck stayed and cooperated with the investigation process. Detectives handling the case continue to work at this time to determine several unclear factors surrounding the deadly crash in Coalinga.
