Drunk Driver Causes Collision on Highway 101

Two vehicles collided head-on as the result of an impaired driver in Garberville on Monday.

According to reports, the accident occurred on May 2nd on Highway 101.

Dalya Dhamar Olea, of Fortuna, was driving south in a Honda at the time of the accident.

The drunk driver, Valerio Garcia Luna, was operating a Nissan pickup truck headed north before swerving into oncoming traffic.

As a result, the vehicles crashed head-on, causing minor injuries to Olea. Paramedics rushed the Honda driver to Howard Memorial Hospital for treatment.

In addition, Luna also suffered minor injuries and was hospitalized. It was soon discovered that Luna was under the influence of alcohol and later arrested on felony DUI charges, driving with a BAC 0.12% or greater, driving without a license, and DUI causing injury.

The crash remains under investigation.

According to NHTSA, more than a quarter (25%) of accident-related deaths are linked to the use of alcohol. With that being said, according to the CDC, there are 30 people that are killed everyday in a car accident as a result of an alcohol-impaired driver. That is equivalent to one death every 50 minutes.

If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may also be entitled to wrongful death benefits.
