Crash Between Amtrak Train And Car

The report of a crash between a car and an Amtrak Coast Starlight train 14 on its way from Los Angeles to Seattle came in just before 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

In a statement after a preliminary investigation, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office noted that a vehicle being driven at a high rate of speed just before the collision was southbound on US 97 when the vehicle ran through the crossing gate and collided with engine of the train.

The car driver was pronounced dead at the scene. All railroad crossing arm barriers and signals were working at the time of the incident, according to Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office. The railway crossing is located just north of Railroad Ave, at US Hwy 97 in Dorris, California.
