Man, 33, Riding Bicycle Killed in Crash

Christopher Thomas, 33, of Palm Desert, died after being hit by an on-duty Riverside County Sheriff’s Department deputy at Country Club Drive and El Dorado Drive.

The deadly bicycle accident occurred at around 3:40 a.m. on Oct. 10th, according to the California Highway Patrol and a report by The Patch.

The Riverside County coroner’s office identified the victim as Christopher Thomas, but the deputy has not been identified at this time.

The Palm Desert man was thrown off his bike after being struck by the deputy’s vehicle. He sustained major injuries and died a few minutes later at the scene.

Meanwhile, authorities noted the deputy was not in an emergency response mode when the collision took place and that deputies began providing medical aid to the bicyclist until paramedics were at the scene.

However, despite efforts to save his life, the Palm Desert man was pronounced dead at the scene.

CHP officials are heading up the investigation.
