Girl, 8, Dies at Hospital; DUI Suspect Arrested
Alma Aragon, 26, and her 8-year-old daughter, have both died after a Thanksgiving Day pedestrian accident near a bus stop on 83rd Street in South Los Angeles.
The deadly collision occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 23rd at 1758 W. 83rd St., just east of Western Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. A female driver was exiting a liquor store parking lot when her car was struck by a speeding SUV. The car went off the roadway and up onto the sidewalk where it struck the young woman and child near a bus bench.
Paramedics responded and rushed three people with major injuries to a hospital. Alma Aragon later died at the hospital the same day, but her daughter Alexa Antonio Aragon initially survived with major injuries and died on Monday night. The driver who caused the crash was also hospitalized with major injuries.
Police later arrested the critically injured driver on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The case remains under investigation, but initial findings are that speed was also a factor.
The family of Alma and Alexa Aragon have created a Gofundme page to cover medical and funeral costs for the mother and daughter.
