Pastor at Helendale Church Killed in Freak Accident

Tragic Accident Claims the Life of Alan Todd, 66, Pastor at Helendale Community Church.

Alan Todd, a 66-year-old resident of Helendale, lost his life in a devastating accident on National Trails Highway at Polish Lane, just north of Victorville. The incident occurred around 7:18 a.m. on July 18th near the railroad bridge, close to the entrance of the CalPortland Oro Grande Aggregate Plant, as reported by the California Highway Patrol dispatch.

A 29-year-old man from Hinkley was driving a semi-truck with a 2008 Trail King Low Boy Trailer loaded with a Caterpillar Backhoe. Unfortunately, the truck collided with the railroad bridge, causing the backhoe to fall off and land on top of a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis sedan occupied by Alan Todd and his 63-year-old wife. The car continued moving forward and collided with a tree near an apartment complex.

Tragically, Alan Todd was trapped in the car and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His wife, who suffered major injuries to one arm and her back, received immediate assistance from the Victorville Fire Department. Paramedics transported her by ground ambulance to Victor Valley Global Medical Center and later by air ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center.

Alan Todd was well-known as a pastor at Helendale Community Church. In light of his passing, his family has set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds for his funeral expenses.

Tow trucks were dispatched to remove the damaged vehicles, and authorities are inspecting the bridge to ensure its safety for train travel.

As the investigation is ongoing, authorities will determine if there are any criminal charges associated with the incident
