Driver Killed in Crash with Wrong-way Driver is ID’d
Los Angeles Resident, Abel Bermudez Griego, 57, Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on 805 Freeway in San Diego.
Abel Bermudez Griego, 57, from Los Angeles, tragically lost his life in a collision with a wrong-way driver on the 805 Freeway in San Diego. The incident took place in the southbound lanes of the I-805 Freeway on Wednesday, July 26th, according to CBS 8 News.
The suspected wrong-way driver, Fernando Goneortiz, 29, was arrested after the crash near the San Ysidro Port of Entry, close to the Mexican border. Police reported that Fernando Goneortiz was driving a white Audi sedan northbound in the southbound lanes when he attempted to avoid crossing the border and made a U-turn. As a result, he collided head-on with a blue Honda van driven by Abel Bermudez Griego.
Tragically, Abel Bermudez Griego suffered fatal injuries and died at the collision scene. Fernando Goneortiz sustained major non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at an area hospital before being arrested on felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter charges.
