I-5 Freeway Results in 3 Fatalities
California Highway Patrol reported a fatal wrong-way collision in Maxwell on Monday morning.
It was just before 1 a.m. when a Nissan Altima was heading north in the southbound lanes and crashed head-on with another Nissan Altima.
The accident occurred on the I-5 Freeway near the Maxwell rest area.
Sadly, there were three occupants of the second Nissan that died due to the impact.
Additionally, the wrong-way driver was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
Investigators are actively working to determine what may have factored into the crash.
Although crashes involving wrong-way driving account for only 3% of motor vehicle accidents, they usually have a higher fatality rate as they are often head-on collisions. A study in Virginia concluded that those accidents which include wrong-way driving are twenty-seven times more likely to end in a fatality compared to other types of accidents.
In addition, approximately 80% of accidents involving a motorcycle result in injuries or death.
If your injuries are caused by the negligence of a third party you may be entitled to compensation. In the event of a death, families may be entitled to wrongful death benefits.
