Wrong-Way Driver Causes Chain Reaction Crash in Atwater
Four vehicles collided due to a wrong-way driver in Atwater Monday morning.
The crash took place around 1 a.m. on June 27th on Highway 99.
Angel Manzo, 47, was driving south within the northbound lanes in a Mercedes sedan.
He went into a construction zone then veered off the road and hit the center divider.
Four cars also collided as a result in an attempt to avoid Manzo’s vehicle. One of the drivers complained of pain and was hospitalized for treatment.
No other injuries were reported.
Manzo was later arrested on suspicion of DUI, driving with a revoked license for DU, causing bodily injury and driving the wrong way.
He is currently being held at Merced County Jail.
