Head-On Collision Results in Serious Injuries on Highway 11
Serious injuries were sustained following a head-on collision in San Diego on Tuesday night, January 11th.
The traffic accident took place within the westbound lanes of Highway 11 around 11:30 p.m.
At this time, it is unclear what caused a Honda Accord and BMW to hit each other head-on.
Three people were rushed to a local hospital for treatment and one suffered serious injuries as a result.
An active investigation is underway to determine liability.
Head-on collisions are without a doubt the most dangerous types of crashes. They may only account for 2% of accidents, however they make up 10% of all deadly crashes.
The Fatal Analysis Reporting System (FARS) has found that:
- 75% of head-on crashes happen in rural areas
- They are most common on two-lane highways
- Failure in negotiating a curve on the road causes 23% of all fatal head-on collisions
- 58% of head-on collisions result in a fatality
