Hit-and-Run Crash Kills Motorcyclist in Las Vegas

An unidentified motorcyclist was the victim of a hit-and-run collision on Saturday morning in northeast Las Vegas. 

The fatal accident occurred at East Lake Mead Boulevard and Marion Drive at around 9:55 a.m. 

It was reported that a Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by Jose Luis Ochoa, 39, struck the motorcyclist and fled the scene. 

The motorcyclist, who was a 34-year-old woman, was rushed to University Medical Center where she later died. 

Ochoa was eventually arrested and booked on voluntary manslaughter and duty to stop at the scene of the crash. 

The motorcyclist will be identified once notification of kin. 

Hit-and-run collisions account for almost 6 deaths per day and there is at least one per minute in the U.S.

In addition, approximately 80% of accidents involving a motorcycle result in injuries or death. 

Motorcycle accidents, according to the NHTSA, accounted for 14% of motor vehicle accident deaths in 2019. Motorcyclists should be fully aware of the safety challenges in which they face while riding on roads in California.
