Two people were left injured and an 80-year-old Temecula man was killed in a crash on Interstate 15 in Murrieta. Apparently, the victim lost control while braking for stopped traffic.

California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Lassig remarked the wreck happened just before 2 p.m. on southbound Interstate 15, south of Murrieta Hot Springs Road.

Lassig said the victim was traveling about 65 mph in his 1999 Lincoln Town Car in the No. 3 lane of the southbound side of the freeway when a 2003 Dodge Ram van abruptly slowed as traffic ahead of him came to a stop. The Lincoln driver tried to apply brakes but lost control.
