Two-Vehicle Collision on SR 86 Results in Major Injuries & Death
Five people were injured and one killed on Sunday morning due to a two-vehicle collision in El Centro.
The deadly accident took place on February 6th around 12 a.m. on SR 86 and Norm River Road.
Saurberg, 46, was traveling west in a Chevrolet Traverse when she collided with a southbound Dodge Avenger.
The Dodge was driven by 58-year-old M. Gamboa and both Saurberg and Gamboa suffered major injuries.
In addition, V. Miranda, 32, I. Valles, 57, and M. Valles-Garcia, 56, sustained major injuries and were hospitalized.
A 57-year-old woman from Brawly who was a passenger in the Traverse sadly died at the scene.
Authorities also reported that several victims of the crash were not wearing their seatbelts at the time of impact.
Investigators are actively working to determine what may have factored into the collision. Neither drugs or alcohol were suspected to have played a role.
In 2020, studies showed that the state of California reported 3,723 motor-vehicle deaths which was an increase from 2019.
In the U.S. one’s odds of dying in a car accident is around 1 in 107.
